AT&T Versus T-Mobile: Different Plans for Different Needs

Comparing prepaid phone plans can feel overwhelming; there are so many choices. However, having so many options is also what makes prepaid so great! No matter your needs and how you use your phone, there’s a plan that’s perfect for you.

AT&T and T-Mobile are two great examples. While an AT&T refill and a T-mobile refill will both get you great prepaid service, they offer different plans for different needs. Knowing the difference will help you make the right choice for you!

AT&T Prepaid Service: Best for Monthly Users

Do you want a monthly plan where you pay for your usage every 30 days? If so, AT&T is the best plan for you. It has lower monthly prices for unlimited data than T-Mobile.

As with all prepaid phone services, AT&T offers a monthly plan with no contract and no credit check, so there’s freedom and flexibility to access the high-quality AT&T network without jumping through hoops.

While they do offer pay-as-you go plans, they tend to be more expensive at $2 a day for unlimited minutes and texts and extra for data. Or, you can buy minutes for $0.25 each and texts for $0.20 each.

Their monthly plans include unlimited talk and text in the U.S., and unlimited texting to over 100 countries. Other benefits include:

  • $30 a month has data available at $5 per 100 MB.
  • $35 a month includes 1GB high speed data
  • $45 a month includes 6GB high speed data, unlimited talk and text within and between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, and roaming in Mexico and Canada.
  • $65 a month includes unlimited data, unlimited surfing, listening, watching, and gaming, and the same international access as the $45 plan.

The other group of people that will benefit from the AT&T plan are folks who need talk and text within and between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Having that included with the higher-level plans makes AT&T a very attractive provider!

T-Mobile Prepaid: Best for Pay-as-You-Go

Buy AT&T

T-Mobile offers monthly plans, but unless you don’t have good AT&T coverage in your area, you’ll probably do better with AT&T on price.

T-Mobile monthly plans include:

  • $45 a month for unlimited talk and text in the U.S. and 4GB high speed data
  • $55 a month for unlimited talk and text in the U.S. and 6GB high speed data
  • $75 a month for unlimited talk and text in the U.S. and unlimited high speed data

T-Mobile really shines with their pay-as-you-go plans. You can purchase specific numbers of minutes inexpensively, making this carrier ideal for those who don’t use their phone much.

If you only want your phone for emergencies or occasional use and aren’t worried about using it as a full-service internet hub, T-Mobile is where you want to be.

Pay-as-You-Go Rates include:

  • $10 for 100 minutes or messages, good for 90 days.
  • $30 for 300 minutes or messages, good for 90 days
  • $50 for 500 minutes or messages, good for 90 days

You can check your remaining minutes and their expiration date by entering #999# and pressing the send button.

If you don’t want to worry about data or simply want a phone for communication and emergencies, T-Mobile is the provider that gives you the best value.
